GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT – A significant policing operation across the Garden Route District has resulted in the arrest of 316 individuals for various offenses. The multi-agency initiative targeted drug and unlicensed liquor outlets, conducted stop and search operations, and established vehicle checkpoints and high-density patrols in areas known for high crime rates. Among those arrested, 80 were detained for drug-related offenses, 46 for possession of dangerous weapons, and one for unlawful possession of ammunition, with additional detentions for undocumented status and minor offenses. Most arrests occurred in George, Oudtshoorn, Pacaltsdorp, and Knysna.
According to South African Police Service, on 07 June 2024, police in Kwanokuthula executed a search warrant at a residence on Angola Street, where they seized 38 rounds of .38 Special ammunition and apprehended a 50-year-old suspect. Further actions included a raid on a Phase 5 residence in Kwanokuthula, resulting in the seizure of cocaine and the arrest of a 49-year-old male. On 09 June 2024, during patrols in Kranshoek near Plettenberg Bay, police detained a 27-year-old man found with Mandrax tablets. The same night, operations in Thembalethu led to 10 additional arrests for weapon and drug possession, with drugs valued at approximately R13,500 confiscated.
All suspects are scheduled to appear in court this week. This operation is part of ongoing efforts by police forces to enhance safety and security in the community.
