Alcatel Local Reception Buoys China Firm

TCL Communication Technology Holdings Limited, the Chinese-based firm prominent for making the Alcatel One Touch smartphone, has announced a considerable increase in the number of handsets shipped to the continent for the year ended December 31.
In a statement accompanying its financial results for the period, the company reported sales volume of handsets and other products to the Europe Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region totaled 24 6 million units, up 20 percent year-on-year, with revenue increasing by 25 percent to HK (Hong Kong) $9, 7 billion, accounting for 32 percent of the Group’s total revenue.
Smartphone sales volume reached 13, 4 million units with a 90 percent year-on-year growth, accounting for 55 percent of the total shipment to EMEA.
The Group continued to expand its presence into new markets in 2014, particularly in the Middle East and Africa.
Sales volume in the Middle East and Africa recorded significant growth of 126 percent year-on-year mainly due to deepening market penetration and the increase in number of first-time users.
TCL said according to Gartner and company data, ALCATEL ONETOUCH ranked fourth (total phones) in EMEA and ranked a smilar position (total phones and smartphones) in Middle East and Africa market in terms of sales volume in the fourth quarter of 2014.
According to IDC and company data, the Group ranked third (total phones) and second (smartphones) in Egypt and fourth (total phones) in South Africa during the period.
Meanwhile, the company’s net profit for the year surged 251 percent to HK$1,108 million while sales volume of smartphones and other smart devices increased by 136 percent year-on-year.
