MOUNT FRERE: South African Police Service together with a number of stakeholders in Alfred Nzo District closed the Women’s Month with a massive prayer in Mount Frere Central Business District (CBD) on Wednesday, 31st August 2022.

The first phase of the initiative was a well-organised march to a hotspot vicinity of which hooligans are reportedly taking advantage for criminal deeds. Religious fraternity led the phase as they prayed for repentance of criminals in the space. The stakeholders proceeded to Mount Frere Town Hall for formal programme.

Alfred Nzo Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Nompumelelo Majikijela described the multi-disciplinary initiative as a tool to restore moral fibre across the District. She called upon all stakeholders to work collectively against criminality and moral decay in their respective environments. “Let us all work together in the fight against crime, as part of community policing. Community policing requires collective and equal efforts in ensuring desired outcomes.”- she said.

She utilised the platform to urge religious fraternity to play their critical role in the establishment of Spiritual Crime Prevention, as it is one of critical tools to deal with crime and moral decay in communities. Traditional Leadership was also urged to play a role in enhancing traditional policing.

Brigadier Majikijela outlined different roles of community and its structures in the fight against crime to ensure safety and security in their communities.

Religious fraternity prayed for a number of issues, including:

– God’s intervention on drugs

– Economic Growth

– Rape Pandemic

– Unemployment

– Crime

– Government Leaders and Diseases

The programme was concluded by a Stakeholder Engagement at the same venue, where various stakeholders made commitments in an effort to fight crime in the District through collective social crime prevention initiatives.
