Anti-Gang Unit arrest wanted suspect and recover firearm

GQEBERHA – A 32-year-old gang affiliate wanted for separate cases of murder and attempted murder was finally arrested last night, 1 March 2022 by members of the Anti-Gang Unit.

At about 22:15 on the mentioned date, members received and acted on information about the possible whereabouts of the suspect. A house in Glendenning Street in Shauderville was tactically approached and the suspect apprehended. A .44 Smith and Wesson revolver and four rounds of ammunition were found in his possession. The serial number of the firearm was filed off.

The suspect is detained for the murder of Earl Bruintjies (34-years-old at the time) committed on 12 August 2018. Bruintjies was allegedly shot in his head in Lawler Street in Shauderville. The suspect is also detained for 3 x attempted murder cases allegedly committed on 17 February 2022 in Jan Hofmeyer Road in Shauderville. It is alleged that at about 09:30 on the date, the three victims, aged between 25 and 30 years old were standing in a passage leading to Coulridge Road when two males approached them, looking for someone. When informed that they did not know the person, they left, however a few minutes later one person returned and fired shots at them, injuring all three victims. Both incidents are gang related.

The suspect is expected to appear in the Gqeberha magistrates’ court soon on charges of murder, attempted murder (x3) and possession of a prohibited.
