Anti-Gang Unit members arrest suspects for possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition

CAPE TOWN – Police members of the Anti-Gang Unit arrested suspects in possession of firearms and drugs on Wednesday, 23 March 2022, in Athlone and Khayelitsha respectively.

The members conducted an intelligence driven operation in Athlone and tactically approached premises in Kudu Street in Kewtown. Upon searching the residence, they confiscated two 38 special revolvers with ammunition. The 47-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of prohibited firearms and ammunition.

In an unrelated incident, the members executed a search warrant at a residence in Manzini Walk in Bongweni, Khayelitsha. Upon arrival at the address, they confiscated a pistol with ammunition and a consignment of drugs. Two males aged 35 and 37 were arrested and detained on charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition and dealing in drugs.
