TANZANIA athletes Paschal Mombo and Deo Lazaro have been enlisted to compete in the Nedbank Championships in South Africa.

The duo, who are members of Holili Youth Athletics Club (HYAC) will leave for Johannesburg on Friday and stay in South Africa until September, this year.

“During their stay in South Africa Mombo and Lazaro will attend training with Nedbank Athletics Club and participate in various competitions,” HYAC founder Domitian Genandi said 0n Tuesday.

He said Mombo will first compete in a 25-kilometre race on April 28 in Pretoria, while Lazaro will take part in another event in May. Genandi said his club is in the process of building a g working relationship with the Nedbank Athletics Club of South Africa and two of HYAC’s athletes are already in South Africa.

“Lameck Msiwa and Furaha Kabaya are currently with Nedbank Club and the other two will join them next week,” he said. “It’s a good development as the quartet will be training and competing in various events at the same time.”

The performance of Msiwa and Kabaya has impressed Nedbank Athletics Club Manager Nick, who showered praise on the pair.

“They are good young athletes who are always eager to learn and they are also performing well in competitions they take part,” he said. “Last week they both finished top”.

Meanwhile, Genandi has praised his runner Ismail Juma, who finished ninth at the IAAF World Cross Country Championships held in Guiyang, China last weekend.

“Although the result is not very good, we’re happy because we have proved we’re working hard to produce athletes who can make the country proud,” he said.

“Juma’s performance has motivated us to work extra hard to produce many athletes who can bring medals to the country from international events. We hope young athletes we have at the club will emulate him.
