General

In a significant development, the community of Bureh Town has taken a proactive step by unanimously endorsing a private sector management model for the newly developed tourist facilities at Bureh Beach. This decision, a result of the community’s active participation in a meeting organized by the Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs and the Project Coordinating Unit (PCU) of SLEDP, marks a key milestone in the future of the beach’s amenities.

The decision was made during a meeting organized by the Ministry and the Project Coordinating Unit (PCU) of SLEDP, which aimed to engage the community in the future management of the beach’s new amenities. These facilities, which include a beach boardwalk, market stalls, a surf club, a restaurant, a jetty, public showers, toilets, and green parking, are part of the broader initiative to boost tourism in Sierra Leone by developing key sites such as Bureh Beach, Leicester Peak, and Tacugama.

During the meeting, the Director of Tourism, Travel, and Exchange Program, M
ohamed Jalloh, underscored the potential benefits of the new management model. He highlighted that the facilities, once managed by a private entity for five years, would significantly improve the livelihoods of Bureh Town residents and create numerous employment opportunities. This decision, made by the community through their representative Pa Tucker, is a testament to their foresight and commitment to the town’s development.

The Ministry of Tourism and Cultural Affairs aims to elevate Bureh Beach into a premier tourist destination, fostering local employment and business opportunities for the community.
