Centane man sentenced 20 years for rape

EASTERN CAPE – Centane Regional Magistrate’s Court convicted and sentenced 25-year-old man Asiphe Duma to undergo 20 years imprisonment for rape of an 11-year-old girl. The accused was sentenced on Friday, 11 September 2020 at Centane Regional Magistrate’s Court.
It is alleged that on 16 January 2019 at about 11:00 the victim visited the accused homestead at Marhanugeni Locality, Gqunqe Village, Centane as they are neighbours. The accused poured white powder in a glass of water and forced the victim to drink it. He then raped the victim.
A case of rape was opened at Centane Police Station. The case was handed over to Butterworth Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS). The accused was traced and arrested.
