Deputy Minister of Employment and Labour Boitumelo Moloi pledged the Department’s support to the efforts at improving the living and working conditions of the communities in and around the Harry Gwala District Municipality.

This was during the Deputy Minister’s address to the interdepartmental Imbizo at Kromhoek Village in UMzimkhulu Local Municipality today.

“We pledge our full support to the efforts aimed at improving the living and working conditions of the communities in and around Harry Gwala District. We as the Department of Employment and Labour contributed by rolling out an outreach programme where the full basket of our services were taken to the outlying communities within the district,” Deputy Minister Moloi said.

She further emphasised the services that were rendered by the Department to the communities from the beginning of this week. She told the gathering that the services offered included Unemployment Insurance Fund –taking and processing claims for unemployment, maternity, death, illness and parental benefits; Compensation Fund – taking and processing claims for occupational injuries and diseases; Public Employment Services- registration of workseekers, job and training opportunities, placement of workseekers, providing employment counselling; and Inspection and Enforcement Services where labour laws were monitored and enforced.

She told the Imbizo that the services were offered to Emabandla, Ngwaqa, KwaSenti, Sisonke, and Izintwala communities. The services were offered in addition to normal services that are offered through available labour centres, satellite service and the mobile bus.

The Deputy Minister further spoke about the Unemployment Insurance Fund’s Labour Activation programme which is intended to alleviate poverty and unemployment.

“We are thankful to all the Community Leaders who assisted in whatever way that contributed to the success of this campaign albeit at such a short notice. We continue to render the services even today as the Department’s bus and the team of officials have been deployed to this event,” Deputy Minister concluded.
