Ethiopian Diaspora Commends Development Efforts as Key to Poverty Alleviation and National Image

ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia — Members of the second-generation Ethiopian Diaspora, who are currently visiting Ethiopia, have praised the country’s development projects as fundamental to poverty alleviation and enhancing Ethiopia’s global image. This visit follows Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s invitation, titled ‘Back to your Origin’, encouraging members of the diaspora to reconnect with their homeland.



According to Ethiopian News Agency, the development undertakings they observed during their visit are vital for the nation’s progress. The group, which includes individuals from various countries, celebrated Christmas and Timket in Ethiopia with their families, taking the opportunity to explore numerous development projects across the country.



Mulu Nugusie, visiting from Colombia, expressed admiration for the development works in Ethiopia, remarking on their indication of a bright future for the country. She observed that projects across various sectors would elevate Ethiopia’s status and ensure sustainable benefits for its citizens. Nugusie highlighted initiatives like Dine for Sheger, Dine for Nation, and Dine for Generation, noting their contribution to both the country’s economy and its international reputation.



Yidnekachew Bekele, another visitor, shared that despite hearing negative portrayals of Ethiopia while living in Europe, his visit dispelled these unfounded stories. He commended the quality and speed of the development projects, expressing confidence in Ethiopia’s inevitable prosperity. Bekele emphasized the importance of supporting these multifaceted development efforts.



Adugna Engesu, visiting from Brazil, reflected on the legacy of Ethiopia’s independence passed down by ancestors and the current generation’s responsibility to combat poverty. Engesu found the ongoing development works promising and called for collective collaboration.



This visit by the second-generation Ethiopian Diaspora aligns with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s initiative, inviting them to experience their heritage and witness the nation’s progress in three phases from December to September.
