MPUMALANGA – A 39-year-old was arrested and detained at Piet Relief by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation based in Middelburg on Friday, 18 February 2022 for fraud and corruption.

Information was received about the suspect who communicated with an official from the Department of employment and Labour, informing him that he have applications for claimants that need to be processed on the department`s system for payment on behalf of claimants. The suspect tried to entice the complainant, informing him that they are going to make a lot of money out of the claims if they are processed.

The matter was reported to the Hawks Serious corruption Investigation and an undercover operation was conducted. During execution, the suspect was found in possession of (05) five claims and payment sheets which were already forwarded to the complainant by the suspect.

The suspect is due to appear in Piet Retief Magistrate Court on Monday, 21 February 2022.
