Free State Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs hosts annual game auction, 27 May

The Free State Department of Economic, Small Business Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs (DESTEA) will on Saturday, 27 May 2023, sell 46 hunting and 28 game carcass packages from its nature reserves to bidders at the 2023 Annual Game Auction to be held at Willem Pretorius Nature Reserve.

Last year, the game auction has generated an annual revenue of more than R10 million for the provincial fiscus.

This year’s auction will consist of 4 300 head of game comprising various packages inclusive of Springbok, Gemsbok, Buffalo, Blesbok, Black wildebeest, Eland, Red hartebeest, Ostrich, Blue Wildebeest, Plains and Cape Mountain Zebras, and Waterbuck.

Prospective buyers can only pay through EFT or Card payment and NO cash payment will be allowed.

Buyers of carcass packages must have a valid membership with the Game South Africa, and the approval of the buyer transporting the carcasses will be done onsite during the culling exercise.

All carcass packages will be culled out of a helicopter by the DESTEA culling team.

Willem Pretorius Nature Reserve is situated at 30km south of Ventersburg and 130km via N1 from Bloemfontein.
