Fugitive arrested for fraud and contempt of court

EASTERN CAPE – Rhonda Zeelie (36) a fugitive from justice has been rearrested and will appear in the Port Elizabeth Specialised Commercial Crime Court on Monday.
Zeelie was previously granted R2000 bail in June 2019 following her arrest the same month for fraud amounting to R479 942. In September 2019, she was found guilty and her bail was extended pending her sentencing on 18 October 2019, but then she vanished.
She was employed as an accountant for a company based in Port Elizabeth and misappropriated her employer’s funds by unlawfully transferring monies to her personal bank account for personal use over between 2017 and 2018.
Her unlawful conduct led to her arrest by the Port Elizabeth Serious Commercial Investigation team.
She was finally rearrested on Friday by the same team in Port Elizabeth after absconding court processes for almost a year.
Zeelie is expected to appear in the same court in Port Elizabeth on Monday for contempt of court and sentencing on her previous fraud charge.
