GAUTENG – Gauteng police have successfully arrested four suspects and recovered two firearms along with a stolen vehicle following an attempted hijacking in Rossetenville.

According to South African Police Service, the incident occurred earlier today when police units, including TRT, K9, Counter Intelligence, security personnel, DPC tracking team, Tracker, CAP specialized operations, and Gauteng Traffic Airwing, were monitoring the area based on information regarding a group of suspects involved in armed robberies. During their patrol, police encountered the suspects, resulting in a high-speed chase that ended in Oakdene where the suspects attempted another hijacking. The confrontation led to an exchange of gunfire, resulting in one suspect being fatally shot and another injured. The wounded suspect is currently under police guard and will receive medical treatment.

The stolen vehicle, recovered during the operation, was initially reported stolen last year in Brooklyn. In the wake of the incident, police have opened dockets for possession of a stolen vehicle, possession of unlicensed firearms, an inquest, and attempted hijacking. There is also the potential for further charges as the investigation continues.
