Two suspects appeared before Bethulie Magistrates’ Court today for a house robbery committed on 23 September 2020 at a farm near Bethulie.
It is alleged that the two suspects, Luyanda Velaphi (34) and Poto Morolwa (32) entered the farm house and tied up two occupants, an 86-year-old male and 82-year-old female with ropes and instructed them not to make noise. They then fled the scene with two pistols, an undisclosed amount of cash and a Toyota Hilux Bakkie that was later found abandoned in Bethulie town.
On the 28 September 2020 both suspects were arrested following a tip off from the community. Stolen items, including two firearms, some of the cash and jewellery were recovered and confiscated.
The two are remanded in custody and will appear again on 5 October 2020 for bail application.
