Intelligence driven operation yields excellent success with confiscation of illicit firearm in Oudtshoorn

WESTERN CAPE – An intelligence driven operation in Oudtshoorn yielded excellent results when police seized an illicit firearm at a house at Afrikanerhof, Bridgeton, Oudtshoorn on Friday, 15 July 2022 at about 15:00.

Members attached to Crime Intelligence and Oudtshoorn police armed with a search warrant pounced on the residence on the said date and time. The team proceeded with an intensive search and found a Luger pistol concealed in a backpack in a bedroom. Police seized the firearm and arrested two occupants on a charge of unlawful possession of a firearm.

The suspects aged 42 and 18, a mother and son, remain in police custody. They are scheduled to make their first court appearance in the Oudtshoorn Magistrates’ court tomorrow 18 July 2022 on mentioned charge.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, 14 July 2022 Oudtshoorn police conducted a sting operation at a house situated at Tier Street, Bridgeton (Oudtshoorn). The operation led to the confiscation of 169 litres of liquor and the arrest of a 56-year-old man on a charge of selling of liquor without a licence.

Furthermore, various police units deployed in crime ridden areas in and around Oudtshoorn arrested 16 suspects on drug related charges and 12 for possession of dangerous weapons during crime combatting operations which commenced on Thursday 14 July 2022 until this morning. The vigilant members confiscated an assortment of sharp objects as well as small quantities of Tik, Mandrax and dagga during these arrests.

All arrested, aged between 18 and 56 are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Oudtshoorn Magistrates’ court on Monday, 18 July 2022.

Western Cape police management applauded the members deployed who ensured that these items, illicit firearm, drugs and dangerous weapons, which threatens the safety of the public were removed from the streets of Oudtshoorn.
