Itsoseng rapist sentenced to 13 years imprisonment

POTCHEFSTROOM – The Provincial Commissioner of North West, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, welcomed the 13 years imprisonment sentence handed down to a 30-year-old accused by the Itsoseng Regional Court on Monday, 25 April 2022.

It was revealed during court proceedings that the accused took a 12-year-old minor with him on Saturday, 29 August 2020, to Rustenburg without permission of her (the minor’s) parents. As a result, a case of kidnapping was reported. On her return back home, the minor was taken for medical examination and rape was confirmed.

Further investigations into the matter led to the arrest of the accused. He was eventually found guilty and sentenced to 13 years imprisonment. The accused was further declared unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103(1) of the Firearms Control Act (Act 60 of 2000) and declared unsuitable to work with children in terms of Section 120(4) of the Children’s Act (Act No. 38 of 2005).

Lieutenant General Sello Kwena lauded the Investigating Officer, Sergeant Bongi Mofokeng of the Lichtenburg Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit, for a job well done.
