Joint operation yields positive results

QONCE – A joint operation comprised of Queenstown POP, NIU, K9, Qonce and Izele was conducted in anticipation of possible violence during the funeral of Sweetwaters tavern owner, Thabo Beja (Nozinja) who was gunned down in Qonce recently while riding his bike. A substantial amount of drugs was found on him.
While police were conducting stop and searches at Izinyoka village outside Qonce where the funeral took place, an Avanza was stopped and a pistol and ammunition were found and confiscated. A 33-year-old man was arrested for illegal possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. During the same operation, a VW polo was stopped and searched and 13 bags of mandrax tablets, tik and R14 290-00 believed to be the proceeds of drugs were confiscated. A 44-year-old man was arrested and charged with dealing in drugs.
Both suspects appeared before the Zwelitsha magistrate court.
