Kwazakele police arrest female with suspected stolen property

GQEBERHA – Excellent collaboration between SAPS Kwazakele Task team and their crime prevention members led to the arrest of one female and the recovery of the stolen property taken in a house robbery earlier in the evening, 13 February 2023.

It is alleged that at about 18:30 last night, a house robbery occurred in Manana Street where TV’s, cellphones and other household items were taken. The owner’s silver VW Polo was also taken by the three suspects.

At about 19:25, police received and followed up on information that the stolen VW Polo was in Stofile Street in Kwazakele travelling towards Maqanda Street in New Brighton. A chase ensued where there was exchange of gun fire between the suspects and the police. No injuries were sustained during the shootout. The suspects abandoned the vehicle and ran away. A case of attempted murder (shooting at the police) is opened for further investigation.

The stolen cellphones and the VW Polo were recovered.

At about 01:45 this morning, 14 February 2023, the same team swooped in on a house in Rolilalha Street in Soweto on Sea where the rest of the stolen property was recovered. A 31-year-old female was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of suspected stolen property.

Police are still on the hunt for the three suspects.

The arrested suspect is expected to appear in court soon.
