PIETERMARITZBURG – Despite facing economic and infrastructural challenges, KwaZulu-Natal Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube remains optimistic about the province’s future as a prime investment destination in Southern Africa.
According to South African Government News Agency, Speaking at the State of the Province Address (SOPA) held at the Oval Cricket Stadium in Pietermaritzburg, Dube-Ncube highlighted the province’s resilience in attracting significant investments despite adversities such as load shedding, civil unrest, and the aftermath of recent floods. During the last South African Investment Conference (SAIC), KwaZulu-Natal secured investments from 55 companies totaling over R300 billion, contributing to job creation and economic growth.
The Premier also detailed the province’s efforts in establishing new Special Economic Zones (SEZs) in Newcastle and Ladysmith, expected to generate 4,500 jobs, and supporting 35 Black Industrialists, creating approximately 4,000 jobs. Additional government-led initiatives, including the upgrade of the Port of Durban and investments in rail infrastructure by the Passenger Rail Agency South Africa (PRASA), underscore the province’s commitment to development and job creation.
The recent opening of the Dr. Pixley ka Isaka Seme Regional Hospital, which created over 5,000 jobs during its construction, is among the key projects enhancing community health services and employment opportunities in the region.
