KwaZulu-Natal FCS Units secure five life sentences

DURBAN – From 01 October to 31 October 2022, the KwaZulu-Natal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS Unit) investigating officers arrested 238 suspects for crimes such as rape, kidnapping, abduction, assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily harm, child neglect and indecent exposure.
During that period, 30 convictions were secured by various teams in the province. This included five life sentences and 356 years of imprisonment for accused who appeared in various courts within the province. As more cases are pending in court, it is certain that many other accused will be receiving sentences that will serve as a lesson to others that abuse women and children.
As a result of victims who broke the silence and through their courage reported incidents of exploitation, detectives were able to secure the convictions and put the perpetrators behind bars. We encourage victims more victims to come forward and report cases to the police.
