MANGAUNG, South Africa—In a recent operation targeting drug trafficking, the Tactical Response Team (TRT) in Mangaung Metro successfully carried out a series of raids under Operation Shanela. The operation led to significant drug seizures and the arrest of individuals involved in the narcotics trade.
According to South African Police Service, the TRT’s operation began with actionable intelligence that directed them to a house in the Caleb Motshabi Informal Settlement, within the Kagisanong Police Station precinct. During the search, officers discovered zip lock plastic bags containing Chrystal Meth and Cat drug, with the total street value of the drugs estimated at R3,000. A 30-year-old male was arrested at the scene for possession and dealing in drugs.
The operation then moved to Bastion Street in the Bloemfontein CBD, where a 35-year-old male was apprehended for similar charges. Police seized 19 medium-sized zip lock plastics containing the Cat drug and loose dagga, valued at approximately R4,300. In a subsequent raid on another unit in Bastion Street, a 37-year-old male was found in possession of six medium zip lock plastics containing Chrystal Meth.
Case dockets have been opened at Kagisanong and Parkweg Police Stations, and the arrested individuals are expected to appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court soon.
