The recruitment and use of children in armed forces and groups is a grave violation of international law – UNICEF/NYHQ2015-0116/Porter

A call has been made for the return of over one hundred children who were abducted in the Wau Shilluk region of South Sudan’s Upper Nile State while preparing for examinations two weeks ago.
The UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) says the abduction of the children who are being forcibly recruited as child soldiers is a setback to its learning campaign it has launched.
According to UNICEF, about 400,000 children have been out of school due to the conflict which broke out between government and opposition forces in December 2013.
To get an update on the abducted children, Sworo Charles Elisha spoke with UNICEF’s Claire Mckeer who says the agency has interviewed people in the affected community who have confirmed that the children were taken.
