Multi-Agency Operations in Klerksdorp and Brits Net Stolen Vehicles and Arrest Suspects

KLERKSDORP — In two separate law enforcement operations in Jouberton Township, Klerksdorp, and Brits, a total of six suspects were arrested and five vehicles, suspected to be stolen, were seized. The operations involved collaboration among various police units and private security organizations, highlighting effective cross-agency cooperation.

According to South African Police Service, a 41-year-old man was apprehended in Jouberton Township on Friday, August 2, 2024, during a multidisciplinary operation that included Provincial and Klerksdorp Crime Intelligence, the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit (VCIU), SA Tracker Connect, Jouberton Visible Policing, the Insurance Crime Bureau (ICB), and Cap Security. The operation led to the recovery of three Toyota Etios vehicles, initially reported stolen in Alberton and Hartbeespoortdam between March 2021 and October 2023. The suspect is scheduled to appear in the Klerksdorp Magistrates’ Court on Monday, August 5, 2024, for possession of suspected stolen goods.

In a concurrent operation in Brits on Thursday, August 1, 2024, a crime intelligence-driven initiative by the local Operational Coordination Centre (OCC) resulted in the arrest of five Mozambican nationals. They were caught stripping parts from a red Mazda CX5, which had been linked to a car hijacking in Mmakau the previous month. Additional vehicles, a Mahindra and a motorbike also found at the scene, tested positive for being stolen. The five suspects, four males and a female, are due to appear in the Brits Magistrates’ Court on the same Monday for similar charges.

Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, the Provincial Police Commissioner, commended the teams involved in both operations for their successful outcomes in addressing vehicle theft and related crimes in the region.
