North West hosts Provincial Children’s Parliament at Provincial Legislature, 24 Sept

Sectoral collaborative Children’s Parliament to address social ills affecting children
North West Office of the Premier in partnership with North West Provincial Legislature will host a Provincial Children’s Parliament under the theme “Maximising the voices of children in addressing social ills affecting them”. The event, which is targeting children between the ages of 12 and 17 from all four districts and across all social dynamics, will be held this Saturday, 24 September 2022 at the North West Provincial Legislature.
Children’s Parliament was established to celebrate the values, principles and commitment of the former President Nelson Mandela to South African children by affording them opportunities to participate and directly influence decisions made on their behalf. It serves as a platform for children to engage with the provincial leadership and make known their challenges to them. The initiative is also meant to empower children and enable them to participate in the policy-making and legislative processes of the country.
The session is intended to address challenges facing children, particularly those regarding alcohol and drug abuse and teenage pregnancy. Furthermore, the aim is to heighten advocacy around Children’s rights and responsibilities as well as affording them the opportunity to be part of the problem-solving processes in the province.
