Operation Lockdown successes

CAPE TOWN – Our mission to fight the scourge of gang violence and to remove illegal firearms, ammunition as well as drugs from the communities yielded positive results.

Members attached to Operation Lockdown conducted an operation and arrested suspects with drugs and an unlicensed firearm.

On Friday, 21 February 2020, at about 04:30, members received information about a person who is dealing in drugs – transporting dagga to prison which was immediately followed up. They searched a premises in Elizabeth Street, Kalkfontein, Kuilsrivier, and found two bags containing 377 compressed and sealed dagga, one sachet tik, six cellphones, three cellphone chargers, one earphone and 16 types of alleged ‘muti’ sealed in packets with names on. All the exhibits were sealed in one bag ready to be delivered at prisons in the Western Cape. A 38-year-old suspect was arrested and will appear in the Kuilsrivier Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 February 2020 on a charge of dealing in drugs.

In Delft members arrested a 30-year-old man for possession of unlicensed firearm (Bersa 9mm pistol) and ammunition in F24 Blikkiesdorp, Delft. Members of the Tactical Response Team followed up on information about firearms being stored on the premises, and upon searching it they found the firearm, two rounds of ammunition and a magazine. The suspect will appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 24 February 2020 on the mentioned charges.
