Partnership policing resulted in the confiscation of two firearms and ammunition in the Bishop Lavis Policing precinct

WESTERN CAPE – Bishop Lavis police members gained the trust of the community when they infiltrated a gang stronghold in Bonteheuwel on Thursday 25 August 2022, where they arrested two males in possession of firearms and ammunition.

The members responded to a complaint and drove in the direction of the notorious T-Block in Bonteheuwel. Upon arrival in the identified road, they were informed that the yet to be identified shooters were hiding on a premises in Terblanche Street. They approached the premises and saw two unknown males hiding objects close to a wendy house. The suspects became aware of the presence of the police and fled the scene. The members recovered a 9 mm pistol with ammunition and gave chase. A 33-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Meanwhile the police members were busy with patrols in Bonteheuwel when they were informed of a shooting incident between rival gangs. Upon arrival community members pointed out the shooters. The members followed one of the identified suspects and apprehended him in Teak Road. The 40-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition.

Once charged, the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Bishop Lavis Magistrates court on the mentioned charges.
