Police in the Western Cape seize drugs in Macassar and Tulbagh

WESTERN CAPE – In the fight against the possession of drugs in this province, police officers continued to detain suspects on Monday, 13 February 2023 in their bid to root out the illegal trade of drugs in the Western Cape.

Police members launched an intelligence driven operation and pursued information indicating that a vehicle transporting a consignment of drugs was traveling from Kraaifontein to Ceres. The identified vehicle was spotted near to Tulbagh where the police officers stopped and searched the vehicle and the driver, ultimately confiscating drugs with an estimated street value of R330 000 hidden inside the spare wheel. The 42-year-old man was arrested and detained on a charge of possession of drugs.

In an unrelated intervention police members attached to the Anti Economical Crime Task Team, responded to information pertaining drugs stored at identified addresses in Macassar. The members operationalised the information and approached the homes in October and Malgas Streets simultaneously. Both premises were searched, and members confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R73 000. A male aged 42 and a female aged 40 were arrested and detained on charges of possession of drugs.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Tulbagh and Strand Magistrate court’s on the mentioned charges.
