Police in Tshwane round up suspects and recover unlicensed firearms and ammunition

PARKTOWN – Police in Tshwane have arrested suspects in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition. Three suspects aged between 34 and 50 were arrested on Tuesday, 21 June 2022, at different places in Tshwane after they were found with three unlicensed firearms and a number of ammunition.

Information was received about armed suspects involved in the commission of serious and violent crimes. A team consisting of the Tshwane District Serious and Violent Crimes Unit, Tracing Unit, Crime Intelligence and Public Order Police went on a manhunt for the suspects.

The team pounced on the first suspect, aged 41, in Winterveld where he was found in possession of a 9mm pistol with filled with off serial number, a 9mm magazine and 15 live rounds of ammunition.

The second suspect, aged 33, was arrested in a separate house in Winterveld. He was found in possession of a firearm with a serial number filled off, 9mm magazines, an R5 rifle magazine and live rounds of ammunition.

The third suspect, aged 50, was arrested in Mzimdala Section in Mmotla. As the police arrived at his premises, the suspect attempted to flee the scene. Upon searching him and the house, police found drugs, an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

The arrested suspects are expected to appear the before court within 48 hours.
