Police launch manhunt for a murder suspects

The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation in Gqeberha are on the hunt for suspects allegedly involved in a murder which took place on Wednesday 10/11 in Bethelsdorp.

It is alleged that on the above-mentioned date at approximately 11:30, members from the Anti-Gang Unit responded to a complaint of a shooting at the corners of Stanford Road and Bloemendal Road, Booysens Park. On arrival the members found a black convertible Audi parked at the bus stop with the body of Sakhumzi Makhonxa (41) in the driver’s seat with multiple gunshot wounds. It was further alleged that Sakhumzi parked his vehicle at the bus stop while he was on the cell phone, when a silver Datsun X trail approached the vehicle and several shots were fired from inside the X trail, at the Audi. The vehicle sped down Bloemendal Road towards Old Uitenhage Road. Sakhumzi sustained multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body and he died on the scene. The Datsun X trail vehicle was later found abandoned on the Old Uitenhage Road towards Despatch.

It was later establish that the vehicle used in the shooting was reported stolen during October 2021 in the Mount Road policing area. The vehicle was impounded for further investigation.

The Provincial Organized Crime Investigation in Gqeberha are investigating a case of murder. The motive for the murder is yet to be established.
