Police Minister on Lockdown Operations

NORTH WEST – Police Minister, General Bheki Cele, joined by Deputy Minister Cassel Mathale, the National Commissioner of the SAPS, General Kehla Sitole, Deputy National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mfazi, and North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena on Tuesday, 31 March 2020, the fifth day of the nationwide lockdown, visited the COVID-19 Operations in the North West Province.

Minister Cele commended the Province for their exemplary set up, where all relevant government departments were working closely together. The presence of Health Practitioners at roadblocks and shopping centres, where motorists, passengers, and shoppers were screened, did not go unnoticed and Minister Cele vowed to ensure that the same standard is upheld at all the operations countrywide.

In line with government’s multi-disciplinary response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Minister Cele continues to enlighten the elderly and other social grant recipients on hygiene protocols and observing social distancing while waiting in the long queues. Source: South African Police Service
