Police searching for alleged copper theft suspects in Olifantshoek

NORTHERN CAPE – On 1 June 2022 at about 03:00 the Olifantshoek SAPS spotted a suspicious looking vehicle during routine patrols. The white VW Polo TSI allegedly failed to stop at a stop sign and was heading towards Kathu.

Police immediately chased after the vehicle, and stopped it. However, the two males’ occupants fled into the veld.

The vehicle was searched and police found 242kg of copper cables in the boot. The estimated value of the copper is a quarter of a million rand (R250 000-00).

Police also confiscated the white Polo TSI and found that it was a rented vehicle. An enquiry docket was opened and police request that any information be forwarded to Sgt Dannyboy Kgatlane on 082 302 0395. The investigation continues.
