Police seek community assistance in murder investigations

DESPATCH – Despatch detectives are appealing to the community for their assistance in the investigation of three separate murder cases.

It is alleged that on Sunday, 03 April 2022 at about 08:17, the body of Xolani Mwezeni (32) was found by a community member lying close to a shop in Bayland, Despatch. The deceased sustained multiple head injuries. A case of murder was opened.

In a second unrelated murder case, it is alleged that on Sunday, 24 April 2022 at about 23:30, Emit Hastie (50) was walking in Mikro Street, Despatch when he was approached by a group of unknown men who robbed and stabbed him multiple times. The victim was admitted to a local hospital where he passed away. Prior to the incident, it is further alleged that Hastie had won some money on a slot machine at a bar in Despatch.

On Sunday, 22 May 2022 at about 00:30 Mthuthuzeli Mhlawuli (50) was asleep at his home in Gufinqando Street, Despatch, when an unknown male entered the house and shot the victim several times in the head. The victim passed away on the scene and a case of murder was opened.
