Provincial Commissioner welcomes hefty sentences handed down to murderer in Cape High Court

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape Lieutenant General Thembisile Patekile welcomed the hefty sentences handed down to murder suspect Dennis Sauls by the Western Cape High Court on Friday 28 January 2022.

The accused faced two counts of murder, possession of an unlicensed firearm and the illegal possession of ammunition.

These sentences followed after the accused was convicted for the double murder of two 16-year-old boys which was perpetrated in May 2020.

The hard work of the investigation paid off when the accused entered into a plea bargain with the state.

He was found guilty on the two counts of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment on each count, for the possession of an unlicensed firearm he was sentenced to 10 years and illegal possession of ammunition he was sentenced to five years imprisonment. All these sentences will run concurrently.

The police management lauded the investigating officer Sergeant Siyasanga Mapukata attached to the Anti-Gang Unit for his hard work and dedication in securing these sentences imposed.
