Rapists given long jail terms

The South African Police Service specialized Unit, the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences ( FCS) Unit, continue to acquire heavy jail terms to several people who are still perpetrating the sexual offences acts in some parts of Limpopo Province.

This week, three (03) rapists were slapped with long jail terms between 20 years and life imprisonment for separate incidents of rapes and serious and violent crimes.

The Regional Court in Mankweng outside Polokwane has given long jail terms to two (02) men aged 25 and 34 for separate incidents of criminal activities. Stanley Bethuel Monyepao aged 34 was sentenced to life imprisonment for rape, a further five(05) years imprisonment for attempted murder and twelve(12) months imprisonment for theft.

His sentencing comes after the accused raped a 28 years old woman on 2017-08-08 at about 10:00 at Ga-Dikgale village in the Sebayeng Policing area outside Polokwane. The accused arrived at the victims’ house and requested money from her. When she failed to assist him with money, he threatened her, dragged her to an old dwelling, assaulted her, stabbed her on the face with a knife and raped her.

Still in the Mankweng Regional Court, Nkgopo Alfred Modipane aged 25, was sentenced to 20 years imprisonment for two (02) counts of rapes occurred during the years 2017 and 2018.

In 2017, the accused came across two ladies walking along the street at Ga-Mothapo village in the Nobody area under the Mankweng Policing area. He then started to throw them with stones. They ran away and he chased them, grabbed one of them, dragged her to the nearby bushes and raped her.

In another incident, the same accused, Alfred Modipane threatened the victim with a pick handle and demanded to sleep with her. She refused, he dragged her to his room while assaulting her and raped her.

Meanwhile, the Mokopane Regional Court has sentenced Comfort Kgobe aged 23 to life imprisonment for raping an 8-year-old girl. This hefty jail term emanated from an incident that occured on the 22nd of September 2018, at a village outside Mokopane.

The accused had just arrived at the victim’s aunt and then left with the victim to his house but the aunt and other relatives became suspicious when the two took long to return. They followed them and when they arrived in the accused’s home, they were all met by the sight of a shaken girl who told them that she was raped by her aunt’s friend. The accused had already fled the scene.

The police were immediately notified. The accused was tracked down and arrested just a day after this horrible incident by the FCS Unit.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Major General Jan Scheepers commended the tireless work done by the FCS in this Province which led to the arrest and subsequent long jail terms given to these rapists.
