Swakopmund: A security guard was fatally shot and another was injured during an armed robbery at Platz Am Meer Mall on Monday, highlighting a concerning rise in violent crime in the area. The guards, employed by Southern Cross Security Service, were caught in a confrontation with suspects who fled the scene.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Namibian Police Force (NamPol) Spokesperson Chief Inspector Ileni Shapumba confirmed the incident, which occurred on Monday morning. The suspects arrived at the shopping center in a silver seven-seater vehicle with fake registration plates before engaging in the fatal confrontation.
Chief Inspector Shapumba reported that shots were fired during the robbery, resulting in the immediate death of one security guard. The police have urged the public to assist in locating the suspects, emphasizing the importance of community involvement in the ongoing investigation.
