JOHANNESBURG – The Special Investigating Unit (SIU) has issued a warning about a scam where individuals impersonate the SIU head, Advocate Andy Mothibi, and other members of the unit to solicit funds from the public.
According to South African Government News Agency, these scammers are contacting people under the guise of requiring money for various corrupt practices such as influencing investigations. The unit is actively investigating the identities and motives of these impersonators and has urged the public to remain vigilant to avoid falling victim to the scam. Furthermore, the SIU has stated its commitment to pursuing legal action against anyone found to be impersonating its staff, emphasizing that neither Adv. Mothibi nor any other SIU staff members would ever request funds from the public for unlawful purposes such as bribery.
