Department of Small Business Development and its agencies hosts roadshows in the Western Cape Province

The Department of Small Business Development (DSBD) and its agencies, the Small Enterprise Development Agency (Seda) and the Small Enterprise Finance Agency (sefa) embarked on a country wide product and programmes awareness campaign for SMMEs and Co-operatives. The development and support of SMMEs is critical for economic recovery and job creation. SMMEs are the key drivers for job creation, therefore unlocking value chains for the benefit of small businesses remains critical in recovering an economy that has lost over a million jobs because of the pandemic. Minister for Small Business Development, Ms. Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams and Deputy Minister Sidumo Dlamini will lead the countrywide roadshows scheduled for Western Cape on 20 – 22 April 2022. The theme for the roadshows is unlocking opportunities for SMMEs and Co-operatives for economic growth and job creation.

The purpose of the roadshows is to showcase the work of DSBD, its agencies and other strategic government departments (Employment and Labour, Trade, Industry and Competition, Tourism, and Women, Youth and People with Disabilities) involved in the development of SMMEs, monitor the support and impact on SMMEs through the interventions by the government, share challenges and listen to success stories of entrepreneurs in various districts across the country to improve government support and to better coordinate support for SMMEs through partnerships with the private sector and various departments and agencies. The roadshows are also accompanied by a partnership dialogue which is used as a platform to engage with different stakeholders from different sectors on the National Integrated Small Enterprise Development (NISED) Master Plan. The NISED Masterplan is a coordinated framework for the development and support of SMMEs in South Africa.

DSBD is committed to driving its core mandate which is “to lead and coordinate an integrated approach to the promotion and development of entrepreneurship, Small, Medium and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) and Co-operatives, and to ensure an enabling legislative and policy environment to support their growth and sustainability”. These ministerial roadshows are critical in driving this mandate of DSBD, through ensuring that there is a seamless engagement across all spheres of government on the direction of the Department of Small Business Development and its entities. Minister Ndabeni-Abrahams and Deputy Minister Sidumo Dlamini invites members of the media as follows:
