PRETORIA – A month after President Cyril Ramaphosa introduced the Cabinet of the seventh administration, South Africa navigates the winds of change with an emphasis on continuity and stability in governance.
According to South African Government News Agency, the journey to the seventh administration began with the May 29 elections, which saw no clear victor emerge, leading to a Government of National Unity (GNU). This period of transition has been marked by stability, defying fears of post-election mayhem. The administration kicked off its term with the first Cabinet Lekgotla to devise a government action plan, followed by President Ramaphosa’s Opening of Parliament Address on July 18, where he detailed the administration’s priorities, including economic growth, poverty reduction, and building an ethical state.
The priorities set forth by the President encourage collective effort akin to weaver birds, symbolizing unity and cooperation among South Africans. Following this, the new and returning ministers have actively engaged in their roles, demonstrated by the rapid tabling of Budget Votes, culminating in the President’s response on July 24.
