WESTERN CAPE – Efforts by the Police to eradicate drug trafficking through intelligence-driven approach by operationalizing information received from the public yielded positive results when members attached to Eden Cluster Rural Flying Squad, Oudtshoorn Crime Prevention Unit in conjunction with Crime Intelligence Branch based in Oudtshoorn pounced on known drug dealers on the N12 and seized an substantial amount of Mandrax tablets as well as the vehicle that was used as an instrument to transport the illegal assortment on Monday evening, 18 July 2022 at about 20:10.

Members in pursue of the suspicious vehicle that was travelling from George towards Oudtshoorn with a consignment of Mandrax tablets, observed how the occupants attempted to get rid of the tablets by throwing it out of the moving vehicles. After a high-speed chase members managed to pull the vehicle of the road. They subsequently arrested the three (3) occupants, men aged 29, 49 and 56 and later charged them for Dealing in Mandrax.

The members retrieved the mandrax tablets that was thrown onto the road and seized it as evidence. They found 520 full Mandrax, 70 half and 68 quarter Mandrax tablets with an estimated street value of about R40 000-00 that was destined for distribution in Oudtshoorn and surroundings. Members also seized the Mazda as evidence.

The trio were scheduled to make their first court appearance today, 20 July 2022, after they had been charged with the illegal Dealing in Drugs (Mandrax).

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen T Patekile, had nothing but praise for those involved in bringing the suspects to book and encouraged members to align themselves with the strategic and operational objectives of the SAPS to ensure that our communities are and stay free from the scourge of Drug abuse.
