Stolen vehicle and firearm recovered during police operations

DURBAN – Police officers from the Stabilisation Task Team followed up information about a man who was in possession of a firearm and selling drugs in the Greenwood Park area. An operation was put in place on 24 May 2022 and the team proceeded to Glenrose Road in Redhill where a vehicle was spotted driving without headlights on at night. The vehicle was stopped and the driver tried to flee but he was immediately caught.

Upon searching him, he was found in possession of a pistol with 14 rounds of ammunition. The suspect’s car was also searched and police found 31 bags containing pieces of rock cocaine hidden under the driver’s seat. Further investigation led the team to the suspect’s house where zip bags containing rock cocaine were found on top of his bed. The recovered drugs are valued at R5200-00. A 46-year-old suspect was placed under arrest for charges of unlawful possession of firearm, ammunition and possession of drugs. The suspect appeared before the Durban Magistrates’ Court yesterday pending the next court date.

Yesterday, the same team went to Machibisa in Edendale where they were following information about a vehicle that was stolen yesterday afternoon in Hilton. The stolen bakkie was found abandoned on Edendale Main Road and it was partially stripped. Police are still searching for the suspects.

Last night at 22:10, an intelligence driven operation was conducted in Chatsworth where a 40-year-old male was found at the premises. He tried to offer a bribe to police officers. His house was searched and police found four containers with loose dagga and also parcels containing dagga. He was placed under arrest for attempted bribery and dealing in dagga. The estimated street value of the recovered dagga is R60 000-00. The suspect is appearing in the Chatsworth Magistrates’ Court today.
