MQANDULI – A recent operation conducted by the Mqanduli stock theft unit has led to the recovery of various stolen livestock across the OR Tambo District, spanning from July 31 to August 2, 2024.
According to South African Police Service, the operation began in Bityi where nine suspected stolen cattle were recovered, with four confirmed as stolen from Mqanduli. The team then acted on a tip about stolen cattle in Ngcobo, leading to the recovery of thirteen additional cattle after suspects fled the scene. Over the course of the operation, police also recovered fifty-six sheep and fifteen cattle in various villages, along with fourteen goats. All recovered animals were transported to the Mthatha SPCA stock pound for safekeeping. The OR Tambo District Commissioner Major General Pumzile Cetyana praised the efforts of the stock theft unit and encouraged community cooperation in branding livestock to aid in recovery efforts.
