Suspect benind bars for R100 000 worth of drugs

BEAUFORT WEST – Concerted efforts to eradicate drug trafficking into the Western Cape and the illicit drug trade once again led to the arrest of two suspects and the confiscation of drugs estimated at about R100 000.
On Tuesday, 08 November 2022 at about 07:00 Central Karoo K9 members conducted a vehicle checkpoint along the N1 at Beaufort West where they pulled over a passenger bus. A search of the bus ensued and police found a traveling bag with 12 parcels of dagga with an estimated street value of R93 000 stashed inside. Investigation on scene resulted in the arrest of a 35 year old Congolese national who was positively linked to the parcel.
The suspect remains in police custody. He was scheduled to appear in the Beaufort West Magistrates’ court on today on a charge of dealing in drugs..
In the meantime, on Tuesday, 08 November 2022 at about 13:00 Uniondale police patrolled the N9 when they noted a suspicious man behaving strangely at a hiking spot. The members approached him and later proceeded with a search when they found a small amount of Mandrax tablets and Tik in his possession. He was subsequently arrested and charged for possession of drugs. He was also scheduled to appear in the Uniondale Magistrates’ court today.
Western Cape police management commended the members for their efforts to curb drug trafficking along entry and exit routs of this province.
