Suspects arrested and stolen property recovered in unrelated cases

GQEBERHA – SAPS Mount Road members and two private security companies secured the arrest of four suspects and succeeded in recovering the stolen property in two unrelated incidents last night, 20 December 2022.
It is alleged that on Tuesday 20 December 2022 at approximately 18:30 the complainant arrived home in Myrtle Street, North End and parked his car a Ford Figo in the garage, locking it and also activating the alarm. At 19:26 the complainant was informed by a private security company of the theft of his tyres. The complainant noticed that a door leading into the garage was forced open and that two of his tyres were removed. A window was also broken and the spare wheel stolen out of the vehicle. It is further alleged that the 22- year-old suspect was arrested after the security officials noticed a red bakkie driving with tyres on the back. The vehicle was stopped in Middle Street in North End and as the suspect arrested.
In another unrelated incident another private security company were doing way lay duties in the vicinity of Paterson Road and Darling Streets on Tuesday 20 December 2022 due to an ongoing concern with regard to the theft of solar panels. At about 23:30 the security guards found two males and a female who are residing in a shack near by the Darling Street bridge in North End. Next to the shack was a big black tarpaulin that was covering something. Upon further investigation they found 21 solar panels underneath the canvas and arrested the three suspects aged 29 to 36. The value of the solar panels is estimated at R420 000. They are detained on charges of possession of suspected stolen property.
The four suspects will appear in the Gqeberha magistrate court during the week on their respective charges.
The Acting District Commissioner, Brig Ronald Koll commended the private security companies for their involvement in the fight against crime. ‘Fighting crime is an integrated effort and the SAPS acknowledges the good work of other law enforcement agencies including private security companies who play an integral role in the safety of residents,’ added Brig Koll.
