Suspects arrested for various crimes

WESTERN CAPE – In the early hours of this morning, 26 Augustus 2020at around 00:45, members of the Steenberg Crime Prevention Unit were busy conducting crime prevention duties in Arundel Court, Lavender Hill when they spotted a suspect running upon noticing the marked police vehicle. The members gave chase and eventually apprehended him. He was found in possession of a .38 Special firearm and several rounds of ammunition. The suspect, a 40-year-old male, is expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on a possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition charge.
Meanwhile, yesterday morning, 25 August 2020 at approximately 06:00, members attached to Khayelitsha SAPS acted on information when they decided to conduct a search at a house in Luvuyo Drive, Bongweni, Khayelitsha. Upon searching, members discovered a 9mm Astral Uncetu and several rounds of ammunition. A 41-year-old man was arrested on a possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition charge. He is expected to appear in court soon.
Last night at around 17:00, vigilant members of the Public Order Police arrested three male suspects in the Gordon’s Bay area after finding 355 mandrax tablets and tik in a vehicle they were travelling in. All three suspects, aged 28, 40 and 41, were arrested on possession of drugs charges and are expected to appear tomorrow, 27 August 2020, in the Strand Magistrates Court.
In a separate incident, on Monday, 24 August 2020 at about 19:50, members of Lwandle SAPS were performing crime prevention duties when they acted on information about a man believed to be carrying an unlicensed firearm in Ndzuzo Street, Nomzamo. Upon arriving at the address, members sought after the suspect and spotted a man fitting the description. They approached the suspect and after searching they found a .32 revolver firearm and several rounds of ammunition in his possession. The suspect, a 29-year-old male was subsequently arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He is expected to appear tomorrow, 27 August 2020 in the Strand Magistrates Court.
