Three firearms seized by the stabilisation team

DURBAN – On 20 May 2022 at 02:45, police officers from the Stabilisation Team conducted an operation at Peace Valley location which is in the Plessislaer policing precinct.

The team proceeded to a homestead where an elderly man was found. A search was conducted and the 72-year-old man was found in unlawful possession of a firearm with two rounds of ammunition. He was placed under arrest for unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition. The team proceeded to Imbali Unit 14, where a 39-year-old suspect was found in possession of a firearm he was also placed under arrest.

Another 31-year-old man was arrested at Umlazi after he was found in possession of a firearm and ammunition. The team was conducting patrol duties in Umlazi when they received information about a suspect who was in possession of a firearm. The firearm was found hidden underneath a couch with seven rounds of ammunition. The suspects have appeared at the respective Magistrates Courts on 20 May 2022.

The SAPS will continue to detect and remove illegal firearms and ammunition from the streets of South Africa, as they pose a threat to the safety and security of the inhabitants of this country.
