UPINGTON – The Management of the SAPS in the Northern Cape welcomed the two life sentences that was handed down in the Northern Cape High Court on Friday, 04 November 2022, to 52-year-old Albertus Mienies for the rape and murder of his girlfriend Mina Malgas (43).
On 21 July 2018, Albertus allegedly assaulted the deceased who was his girlfriend at the time. Mina succumbed to injuries sustained the same day.
The investigating officer gathered evidence that led to the arrest of Albertus and he was charged with rape and murder with aggravating circumstances. He was found guilty on both charges and was sentenced to two life sentences.
The Acting District Commander of ZF Mgcawu, Brigadier Petrus Coetzee, commended Warrant Officer William Mouers for the meticulous investigation that secured this hefty sentence.
