Two murder accused senttenced for the murder of their girlfriends

NORTHERN CAPE – Voyo Mrola (38) has been found guilty and sentenced to 12 years imprisonment, for the murder of his girlfriend. He was sentenced by the Colesberg Regional Court earlier this week. The Court heard that the accused was abusive towards his girlfriend.

On 13 November 2021, at approximately 18:50, he used sheep shears and stabbed his girlfriend to death. The incident happened at Masiphakame Location in Kuyasa. The victim sustained several stabbed wounds. The investigation revealed that the accused and the victim were involved in an argument on the day of the incident.

The accused was arrested subsequent to be pointed out by the bystanders.

In an unrelated incident, the Colesberg Regional Court also sentenced Xolile Johnson (30) to ten years direct imprisonment for the attempted murder of his ex-girlfriend.

It came to light during court proceedings that Xolile stabbed his ex-girlfriend and she sustained several stabbed wounds. The incident happened in Masiphakame Location in Kuyasa on 20 May 2020.

She was transported to the local hospital to receive medical treatment.

The accused was traced and arrested. He was found guilty and imprisoned on Wednesday, 11 May 2022 by the Colesberg Regional Court.

The Acting Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Crime Detection, Brigadier Nicky Mills welcomed the sentences handed down on the accused and that there is no place for criminals who perpetuate crimes against women and children.
