Two suspects arrested near Uniondale with dagga worth approximately R1.03m

To reduce the levels of serious crime by targeting the provincial crime generators, members of DPCI’s Provincial Organised Crime Unit based in George conducted an intelligence driven operation on the R62 near Uniondale yesterday, which resulted in the arrest of two suspects from Port Elizabeth, aged 57 and 51, respectively.

At approximately 22:25 they spotted a suspicious Colt bakkie travelling in the direction of George. The members pulled over the bakkie and ensued with a search. The members then discovered 740kg dagga that was concealed in black bags with an estimated street value of about R 1.03m. Both items were confiscated.

The suspects are scheduled to appear in the George Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Friday 12 January 2018 on a charge of dealing in drugs. The circumstances surrounding the discovery of the drugs are still under investigation.

The Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape police, Lt Gen KE Jula expressed his appreciation towards the members for the outcome of the operation and said that drug related crime is high on our priority list.
