WESTERN CAPE \u2013 The Khayelitsha Priority Court convicted and sentenced three robbers to 12 years imprisonment each for a cash-in-transit robbery in 2013. They took off with an undisclosed cash amount after robbing a Fidelity Armoured Vehicle.
\nOn 16 May 2013, a group of males overpowered armed Fidelity guards who were responsible for SASSA pay-outs at a community hall in Nyanga. The robbers disarmed the guards and ran off with an undisclosed amount of money. They fled the scene in a stolen VW Golf and another unknown vehicle. The police gave chase and some of the suspects abandoned the VW Golf and hijacked a school minibus. Police continued to chase at the fleeing suspects.
\nA shootout ensued between police and the robbers which resulted in the arrest of five suspects. The fourth suspect died whilst out on bail whereas the fifth one was acquitted. The team recovered the stolen VW Golf and the minibus during their arrest.
\nSiyanda Xawuka (34), Dumisani Ngudle (39), and Yongama Ndolombo (35) were not granted bail after their arrest until they were convicted and sentenced on Monday, 24 October 2022 for robbery with aggravating circumstances, unlawful possession of firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.
\nThe court ordered the sentences to run concurrently, all three convicted armed robbers will effectively serve 12 years direct imprisonment.<\/p>\n
